First, I would like to thank you for visiting my website. My name is Jessica Kalupa and I will honestly say that this all started because someone told me to "have fun" with a GSP pup. Needless to say, three years later and two dogs I will say that I am hooked on bird dogs and bird hunting.
Located in Greenfield, WI; I grew up in a family of non-hunters (and Wisconsin, if you don't hunt, it's almost sin). This all quickly changed, though, when I got my first dog, Suma Kiss of Kings SH, "Trapper"; in August 2007, I had no idea what I was in for.
Trapper was purchased as a show dog from Mary Beth Usery (Suma Kennels) and Diane Engelking (King's Kennels/Vom Riverwoods). Together this pair created the kennel "Hunter's Ridge" as they both shared the love of the GSP and Rhodesian Ridgebacks. I also got my second and third GSPs from them, as well.
I was always into performance events with my Greater Swiss Mountain Dog, CH Bermuda High's Ringmaster NWPD WWD CGC AOM "Nicklaus" whom I co-owned with my parents. When Trapper got his Junior Hunter in April 2008, I focused entirely on creating the perfect bird-finding-machine.
By the winter of 2007, I
had gotten my second shorthair, Hunter's Ridge Sinking the Bismarck SH "Bizzy". By the following Fall in 2008, Bizzy became a second Junior Hunter for me. Trapper had one leg to his Senior, and now it was hunting season with two new dogs. However, Trapper was well on his way to becoming a seasoned hunting companion in the Fall of 2008, getting a few roosters here and there. He started to show his drive and intensity on wanting what he was meant to do -- find birds. Even though he did not have many well-titled hunting parents, it was pure instinct for him. By the following Spring in 2009, Bizzy was on his way to starting his Senior, Trapper had finished his, and Rebel (my third shorthair at the time, Hunter's Ridge Rebel Yell JH) would complete his Junior that Spring.
By Fall of 2009 (and taking a break for the summer), Bizzy had gotten his Senior Hunter. So far, I thought I was doing pretty good with my own dogs and people were asking me for help on how to stop problems during training and testing. I had gotten four consecutive passes on all my dogs for Junior, no more than 6 tries for both my Seniors, and now would be working towards Masters. During the Summer of that year, I had found that people were interested in why and how my dogs were getting good at the testing and what my take was and how I could improve their dog(s). I was shocked, but after being referred by several breeders in the area as a "go to" person to train your pointing dog, I must say I was very proud of my dogs for showing to the world for what they have achieved working with me.
After all, this started out to be a hobby -- and it still is. If I had turned this into "a job", it would not be fun anymore. It would not be fun for the dogs, their owners, or my own dogs. Sure, I am still on the quest to make my dogs perfect, but at the same time, I look to make everyone's dog a phenomenal dog. I want to create a dog that can make jaws drop while on point -- a pointing dog and a bird flushing is probably the majestic thing in the world that I have witnessed. The instinct and ability of these dogs are amazing, and I strive to make the best of this potential in your dog using my methods.
The origin of our name came about when the term of the birds falling from flight, freefall, as by definition is known to be "the condition of unrestrained motion of gravity" according to the Merriam-Webster dictionary.
I am not a "dog broker" for breeders, and I will not take puppies and sell them without a breeder's permission (referring to started/finished dogs that I own with the breeder), but I will post litters of merit for other breeders with their contact information.
I will help your puppy people train and possibly test their dogs. My main focus is to improve the German Shorthair breed, to create a truly versatile dog that exhibits stamina, intelligence, and show the capabilities of being an excellent bird dog for their owners.
I breed for health and temperament, with conformation and hunting being added plus. The health and well-being of all our dogs is #1. All our dogs are PROVEN wild bird dogs when they are not testing or training. I request that any requests to use any of my dogs for breeding to your bitch/stud go under OFA/PENNHip screenings to test for Hip Dysplasia, CERF eye exams, a brucellosis negative test.
Thank you,
Jessica Kalupa
